Job Summary


As the Manufacturing Automation SME SIG for the Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) implementation at Apotex, this individual will be responsible for supporting the design, configuration, testing and delivery of MES to the Manufacturing Teams across the Signet Site. Creating a highly collaborative environment, the Manufacturing Automation SME will play a key role in leveraging the new capabilities of MES on behalf of the Manufacturing function, by identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas, and implementing solutions to improve key processes.

The MES Project is focused on the implementation of the POMSNet MES which is a key pillar of the Smart Factory initiative at Apotex. 

Apotex’s vision of the MES is an Integrated Guided Execution System that leverages Exception-Based Reviews and integrates with the equipment and other enterprise applications

Job Responsibilities


  • Providing Subject Matter expertise around the manufacturing operations, material flow and business process, along with knowledge on the current automation maturity
  • Responsible for equipment upgrades, connection, and integration

  • Design Process Models
  • MES Go Live Support
  • Re-assess the volume of SOP Updates
  • Manage Change Control
  • Integration Platform (connect MES to external apps)
  • Application Integration
  • Acts as a change agent, to identify and drive the business changes. Reviews and provides feedback to Change Management team on communication efforts, change plans, job role definitions, training materials.

Job Requirements


  • University degree, or commensurate experience; Degrees in Engineering or Applied science, Biotechnology, Mechatronics, robotics and Automation would be an asset.
  • 5 years of experience; experience in the Pharmaceutical industry would be an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in managing or leading projects.
  • Experience with Automation and PLC is required for this role; knowledge and experience with Internet of Things (IOT), Digitalization or Smart Factory would be an asset.
  • Strong functional or operational background and extensive knowledge of Manufacturing.
  • Conceptual knowledge and understanding of ERP systems.
  • Proven ability to analyze, identify, plan, and implement operational efficiencies by streamlining and harmonizing functional processes and systems.
  • Solid business acumen with a continuous improvement mindset, challenging the status quo, identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas, and implementing solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; communicates effectively to diverse stakeholders of all levels of the organization.
  • Solid planning, project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word, other Microsoft Office Programs and SAP.
