Assistant Manager, Warehouse

Job Summary

The warehouse Supervisor (Outbound & Fulfillment) leads the high-velocity execution of customer orders, ensuring that $100M+ in annual demand is picked, packed, and shipped with zero defects. This role manages the "Velocity" of the warehouse, balancing labor across picking zones and shipping docks to meet strict carrier cut-off times and maintain 100% "On Time and In Full" (OTIF) delivery.

Job Responsibilities

• Dynamically re-allocates labor across Picking, Packing, and Shipping stations to hit hourly throughput targets and meet critical carrier departure windows.
• Oversees the execution of ASN/EDI transmissions and customer portal compliance; ensures all outbound documentation (BOLs/Manifests) is legally and operationally perfect.
• Manages the constant flow of goods from bulk storage to active pick faces, ensuring zero downtime for the fulfillment team due to "out-of-stock" locations.
• Directs the final-stage auditing process to mitigate shipping errors; coaches the team on advanced packing, cartonization, and pallet-wrapping techniques for transit safety.
• Analyzes daily order waves to build predictive labor models; proactively re-assigns "Fulfillment Specialists" between picking and packing to eliminate bottlenecks and meet daily carrier cut-offs and flow.
• Evaluates packing material consumption and cartonization logic; recommends changes to dunnage or box sizing to reduce "dim weight" shipping costs and improve product protection during transit.
• Co-ordinate inbound product receiving when needed
• Other adhoc duties to maintain the warehouse smooth process

Leadership Duties

• Leads "Continuous Improvement" projects using Lean or 5S methodologies to reduce waste in the workflow and improve the ergonomic safety of the workstations.
• Identifies "high-potential" Associates and Lead Hands; creates "Cross-Training Matrixes" to ensure 100% operational redundancy across all warehouse functions.
• Executes performance check-ins, attendance management, and technical coaching; transforms a team of 30+ into a high-accountability workforce.
• Serves as the primary authority for OH&S compliance on the shift; leads daily safety huddles and ensures a "zero-incident" culture through proactive hazard identification.

Job Requirements

Education

• Minimum high school diploma required; post-secondary in Supply Chain/Logistics an asset.
• Valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Expert ability to analyze "order waves" and dynamically re-allocate labor to meet strict carrier cut-off times and daily SLAs.
• Deep knowledge of Outbound Logistics (LTL, Courier, 3PL), Bill of Lading (BOL) accuracy, and freight cost-mitigation strategies (cube utilization).
• Advanced proficiency in ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice) execution, EDI protocols, and navigating complex external Customer Portals.
• Skilled in auditing high-velocity packing lines and implementing "damage-free" cartonization and pallet-stabilization standards.
• Ability to translate real-time KPIs - Both metric driven and anecdotal (Pick Rates, Orders per Hour, Dock-to-Stock time) into actionable coaching for a high-output team.
• Knowledge of SAP is preferred

Experience

• 3–5 years in warehousing with 1–3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
