Job Summary

The Consultant, International Trade Compliance will develop and support the processes and databases required to ensure Apotex is compliant with all import and export laws and regulations.  Ensures the smooth flow of goods across borders by supporting import and export compliance of materials as it pertains to various government Agencies, including but not exclusive to CBSA, Health Canada, USCBP and the FDA.  Support daily operational management on shipments globally. Maximizes savings for the company through the correct classification of materials being imported. Acts as a technical expert on traffic processes and shipment requirements of increased complexity to coordinate logistical and regulatory documentation related to the movement of freight globally

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance of import/export policies and procedures in accordance with relevant government agencies.
  • Serve as the senior technical specialist/advisor to the organization for all matters pertaining to movement of all goods and materials on an international scale. Collaborate with the launch team, supply chain and customer service on high priority shipments.
  • Act as a main point of contact for the business for launches, rush, critical or highly-complex shipments.
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of a centralized import/export database inclusive of accurate ANDA Codes, FDA Product Codes, and HTS classifications in conjunction with Regulatory and Customs Brokerage provider.
  • Collaborate Interface with internal departments to provide technical expertise on classification, complex or unconventional queries and shipping requirements for Global markets.
  • Manage the performance of customs broker(s) to our Service Level Agreement by providing feedback and attending all reviews with the service provider.
  • Liaise with Customs/Freight broker, Regulatory Affairs, and external government agencies on regulatory and duty matters.  Accountable to support the development of responses for all USCBP, FDA, CBSA and Health Canada inquiries regarding individual customs entries.
  • Accountable to collaborate and review Customs Valuation North American Customs entry reconciliations as well as K84 reporting and reconciliation program.
  • Act as an SME for all audits
  • Recommends actions or remedial actions to senior management in cases of non-compliance with international customs and regulating agencies.
  • Act as an SME to lead provide detailed timelines for traffic investigations to internal stakeholders, having solid knowledge and experience of regional and international logistics transportation requirements/documents/customs compliance aspects that would successfully lead to a shipment moving and reaching its destination
  • Lead and collaborate in the ongoing development and communication of Guidelines for Trade Compliance for relevant departments.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for creating, maintaining and driving process improvement of customs compliance policies, standards, and processes.
  • Maintain corporate import bonds, powers of attorney and other related corporate documents.
  • Works in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.

Job Requirements

Education

  • College or University graduate in a related Logistics discipline preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of USMCA and other trade legislation, agreements and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian Customs and US Customs compliance rules and regulations. 
  • CCS or P.Log designation preferred
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, able to build and maintain relationships with other areas of the business.
  • Ability to manage and handle multiple projects at once, self-starter and go-getter.

Experience

  • 5 or more years industry experience (Pharma/FMCG/Coldchain) in trade and customs compliance.

The hiring range for this position is $55,138.14 to $77,193.40 CAD per year. The final agreed-upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
