Job Summary

  • Responsible for maintaining a constant inventory of clean laboratory glassware and a clean washing area. Responsible and accountable for executing the laboratory waste disposal program.

Responsible and accountable for compliance with all aspects of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as Apotex’s Health and Safety policies, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs.

  • Provides support to the department by performing activities, which will assist chemists in their work.
  • Responsible for receiving, labelling, storing, maintaining, and disposing of samples received in the ARD lab.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identifies and addresses all potential Health and Safety hazards in a timely manner. Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
  • Performs automatic and manual cleaning of laboratory glassware according to approved procedure.
  • Monitors and maintains adequate supply of lab consumable items in stock rooms at all times.
  • Maintains a constant inventory of basic lab and cleaning supplies and glassware for general lab use.
  • Performs clerical support and other related duties as required.
  • Performs cleaning of dissolution baths as assigned. Assists with maintenance of dissolution apparatus by topping up water level and replacing worn tubing.
  • Responsible for collecting laboratory waste, including liquid waste, lab pack waste, syringes and vial waste, and disposing waste according to established protocol. Repetitive lifting of up to 50 lbs is involved.
  • Creates LIMS inventory for laboratory chemicals including preparation of labels and disposes empty bottles.
  • Maintains an orderly work area, including cleaning of sinks, fume hoods, and countertops throughout the laboratory on a regular basis.
  • Orders and maintains gas cylinders for Laboratory, changing empty cylinders in a timely manner.
  • Works in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory for primary and Secondary Standards, ensuring the availability for use
  • Removes from LIMS and disposes raw material ,dosage samples, placebos, and expired chemicals routinely in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Prepares electronic waste disposal reports (eWDR) in QMS Trackwise
  • Maintains the status of lab equipment in LIMS.
  • Ensures all work is performed in full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, all regulatory requirements, and safety standards.

  • Performs daily calibration of balances and pH meters in LIMS All other relevant duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Community College education in a recognized educational institution in Chemistry or a related field; or relevant experience.
  • Experience with computer software packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lanware LIMS, and SAP.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to details.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
