Job Summary

Apotex, the largest Canadian-based pharmaceutical company, is seeking a Director, Sustainability. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for developing and implementing our sustainability strategy, ensuring compliance with ESG reporting frameworks and regulatory obligations, and effectively communicating our ESG initiatives to internal and external stakeholders. Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, you will work with stakeholders across our business, demonstrating resourcefulness, flexibility, a strong strategic sense, and a drive to get things done.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Apotex's sustainability/ESG strategy aligned to our business objectives and 5-year strategy, working with members of our Executive Leadership Team including our Chief Legal Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer, and Chief Operations Officer, along with site leaders, our Chief Compliance Officer, the Associate Director, DE&I, and others.
  • Develop and execute communications strategies to tell our sustainability story, including our ESG strategy, progress, and achievements to a broad range of stakeholders including employees, customers and business partners. Represent Apotex at industry conferences, forums, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with global ESG reporting frameworks and regulatory obligations, by monitoring and analyzing ESG trends, regulations, and best practices, liaising with internal and external resources.
  • Lead the development of environmental sustainability programs and initiatives in collaboration with leaders in our Global Operations team, fostering a culture of sustainability and social responsibility within our organization.
  • Work with subject matter experts in the social and governance pillars to ensure objectives and programs are aligned to our ESG strategy.
  • Prepare and present ESG reports, disclosures, and other communications materials, coordinating with external consultants and auditors for ESG reporting and assurance.
  • Work in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.

  • Ensure personal adherence with all compliance programs including the Global Business Ethics and Compliance Program, Global Quality policies and procedures, Safety and Environment policies, and HR policies.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience with preference for candidates with an advanced degree (e.g., Master’s in Sustainability)
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Works collaboratively in a global matrix environment and regularly collaborates with and mobilizes colleagues across functions to solve problems and drive results.
    • Strong understanding of ESG principles, reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD), and regulatory requirements.
    • Excellent communication, writing, strategic thinking, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ESG concepts to diverse audiences.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation related to ESG metrics.
    • Solid organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, working collaboratively across departments while meeting deadlines and reacting quickly to shifting priorities
    • Proficiency in designing and leading global programs via a mix of internal resources, external technology platforms, and third-party service providers.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage senior leaders in assessing development needs, identifying opportunities, selecting priorities, sponsoring actions and getting results.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in ESG strategy, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, or a related field.
    • Experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or manufacturing industries is desirable.
    • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful ESG programs.
    • Experience in ESG reporting and compliance with global standards.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage external partnerships.
