Job Summary
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting a resilient, secure, and scalable enterprise infrastructure environment. This role provides advanced technical leadership across on‑premises and cloud platforms, including compute, storage, networking, identity, and VDI services, while ensuring high availability and operational excellence.
The position requires solid hands-on experience with cloud, hypervisor, storage, security, automation and virtual desktop Infrastructure, including Citrix environments, to support application and desktop delivery needs. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer collaborates closely with architecture, security, and operational teams to troubleshoot complex issues, lead infrastructure initiatives, and continuously seeks to improve system performance, reliability, and compliance.
This role also contributes to infrastructure standards, documentation, disaster recovery planning, and mentorship, while serving as an escalation point for critical incidents and complex technical challenges.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain highly available infrastructure across compute, storage, virtualization, and core services.
- Lead or contribute to infrastructure roadmaps, including technology refresh, capacity planning, lifecycle and cyber security management.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for time sensitive incidents and recurring problems; drive root-cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions.
- Support virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Hyper‑V, Nutanix AHV) including clusters, resource pools, templates, and HA/DRS concepts
- Administer and engineer Microsoft core services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and certificate services (PKI)
- Harden and maintain server OS baselines (Windows Server/Linux), including security configurations, service accounts, and privileged access models
- Partner with network teams to ensure proper connectivity, segmentation, routing, firewall rules, and load-balancing requirements for infrastructure services.
- Support troubleshooting of cross-domain issues (DNS, MTU, TLS/certificates, proxy behavior, latency) impacting application delivery and user experience
- Operate and troubleshoot Citrix reliably, assist with upgrades/expansions, and collaborate with specialists/architects when needed.
- Provide administration and support for Citrix environments such as Virtual Apps and Desktops (on‑prem or Citrix Cloud), including:
- Monitoring health, usage, and session performance.
- Supporting day-to-day operational tasks (catalogs/delivery groups, user assignments, policies). Including logon delays, profile issues, printer mapping, session disconnects, application launch failures, HDX / performance problems.

- Implement infrastructure hardening practices (CIS-style, NIST, ISO 27001 controls where applicable), vulnerability remediation, and secure configuration baselines.
- Maintain accurate documentation - diagrams, inventories, CMDB updates, service maps, dependencies, and operational runbooks.
- Lead and deliver infrastructure project workstreams end-to-end: discovery, design, build, test, cutover, and transition to operations.
- Experience with enterprise backup and recovery platforms (e.g., Commvault, Veeam, Zerto or similar including CR & DR testing)
- Demonstrated experience working within formal change management and operational governance processes.
- Mentor and coach; provide technical guidance and peer review for designs, scripts, and operational procedures.
- Promote best practices and operational discipline (post-incident reviews, problem management, continuous improvement)
- Participate in cloud migration initiatives, landing zone and other hybrid infrastructure landscape enhancements

Job Requirements
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Certifications (Desired, Not Mandatory):
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, Windows Server, Identity)
- VMware, Hyper-V or Nutanix certifications
- Citrix certifications (CCA, CCP)
- Linux certifications
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management knowledge
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Lead complex technical initiatives end-to-end such as modernization, cyber security and portfolio simplification
- Provide hands-on experience administering, supporting and migrating Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops with NetScaler integration in an on‑prem and / or Citrix Cloud architecture.
- Manage day-to-day Citrix operations (user access, session issues, application delivery).
- Troubleshoot common Citrix-related issues such as logon delays, profile problems, printing issues, session stability, and application launch failures.
- Support cloud hybrid infrastructure, including: Landing Zone optimizations, Infrastructure as Code repositories and pipelines for Microsoft Azure (preferred) or AWS / GCP, IaaS virtual machines, storage, networking, and identity integrations.
- Migrating and managing workloads that span on‑premise and cloud environments
- Administer Active Directory platform not exclusive to including domain controllers, GPO, ADFS, PKI, access control and management
- Manage virtualization platforms - VMWare, Hyper-V and Nutanix
- Exhibit proficiency in the Cisco UCS, Pure (Everpure) storage, EMC NAS / SAN stack
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure incidents.
- Troubleshoot across all infrastructure layers with expert capabilities.
- Remediate outstanding security vulnerabilities and enhance the patch management processes.
- Assist in the resolution of high priority issues and service requests
- Perform annual DR & CR testing outlining RPO/RTO requirements defining recovery sequencing and dependency mapping
- Contribute to the formal change management and operational governance processes.

- Experience
- 15+ years of Senior Infrastructure experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering or systems administration roles within multi-tier infrastructure enterprise environments
- 7+ years of leading complex projects and teams particularly targeted towards modernization and security efforts
- Nice to have - pharma / manufacturing background as well as knowledge of regulatory, compliance and industrialized OT (operational technology) environments
- Background in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures infrastructure playbook activities

The hiring range for this position is $83,126.43 to $116,377 CAD per year. The final agreed-upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
