Job Summary

The Production Specialist is responsible for supporting the Production Supervisor in leading a shift in the production of bulk active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in an efficient manner and following cGMP. Responsible for coordinating the activity of the team, as assigned by Production Supervisor and/or Management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting the Production Supervisor in leading a shift through the organizing and efficient execution of the production schedule of the assigned production plants.
  • Performs interium coverage for Production Supervisor.
  • Delegates work assignments and training to operators.
  • Responsible for coordinating the activity of the assigned team, under the guidance of the Production Supervisor and/or Management.
  • Manages problems or delays that might arise in its area and for immediately seeking advice from superiors whenever the situation exceeds defined scope of authority.
  • In charge of executing one process in any assigned area.
  • Ensures process documentation and events of the assigned team and Plants is accurately and timely recorded
  • Performs spot checking on the floor execution compliance of direct reports with MBR’s, CR’s, SOP’s.
  • Active participation in development of company systems and procedures: review of audit proposed responses, SOP’s, MBR’s, CR’s updates, participates in Hazop studies.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the assigned Production facilities are kept neat and tidy. Submits work orders to have the production facilities cleaned.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the shift-to-shift technology transfer is completed properly by all reporting Senior Chemical Operators. Responsible for reporting production execution progress, plants and equipment status to the Supervisor.
  • Constant communication with support groups: Maintenance/QC/Process/ Engineering/SHE to inform and discuss problems when they arise, set priorities, ensure that the production operation achieves its targets.
  • Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one on ones, to connect on performance; check in on employee’s progress toward achieving Objectives, offer support and remove barriers; and, communicate and revisit performance expectations to reinforce and encourage high performance culture and a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Utilize open, honest, two way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.

Job Requirements

  • Education
    • Minimum High School Diploma/equivalent
    • Strong preference for post-secondary degree in related field, such as chemistry or chemical engineering
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Aptitude for mechanics.
    • Basic computer skills (ex. MS Office)
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and good command of English language
    • Able to multi-task in fast-paced, physically demanding environment
    • A desire to work with team members to improve processes and product quality in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
    • Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective equipment.
    • Must meet physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting heavy objects, climbing, crouching and operating tools and equipment.
    • Must be flexible and able to work continential (rotating days and nights) 12-hour shifts
    • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and knowledge of GMP requirements are assets
    • Ability to organize and efficiently run production activities.
    • Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity, supervisor and coaching other employees
    • Advanced knowledge of cGMP, safety legislation, Production SOPs.
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years ‘ experience working a senior operator in a chemical or API manufacturing plant
    • Process chemistry experience is required
