Job Summary

As an integral part of the engineering team, the Project Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of capital projects throughout the site, including the selection of equipment, preparing requests for proposal and developing testing protocols. In addition, you will perform basic process engineering design to select appropriate equipment technology for a given process and evaluates process control, monitoring, data acquisition and other support requirements for our manufacturing facility.

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate various economic options, develop project schedule and prepare overall project impact summary, including cost benefit analysis.
  • Prepare detailed capital project requests, equipment procurement specifications and vendor’s contracts.
  • Ensure throughout the project implementation phase that the design criteria, safety standards, budgets, timelines are met.
  • Evaluate process control, monitoring, data acquisition and other support requirements.
  • Provide production support for technical parameters such as heat and mass transfer, mixing characteristics, using available equipment to meet these parameters.
  • Coordinate inspection and testing of new equipment with vendors as well as supervise installation and commissioning.
  • Develop validation master plan including equipment, facilities, computerized systems, cleanings and processes (Installation Qualification (IQ) / Operational Qualification (OQ) / Performance Qualification (PQ)).
  • Create protocol development and summary reports for equipment, facilities, computerized systems, cleaning and processes.
  • Develop Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), Preventive Maintenance (PM’s), and calibration programs.
  • Conduct HAZOP studies with R&D and the Process group in addition to providing necessary facility design features to ensure safety throughout all plants.
  • Investigate and provide technical input for deviation investigations, as well as lead deviations.
  • Prepare and route change control documents to support the Qualifications group.
  • Review equipment, support systems and facility modification and repair assessments for impact study.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of three years working in the pharmaceutical food or other chemical processing industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer or candidate with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
  • Good working knowledge of distributed control systems.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Protection Bureau (HPB), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) requirements and Validation concepts and protocols.
