Job Summary

The Senior Analyst, Financial will be a proactive member of the Finance team reporting to the Corporate Controller responsible to perform monthly analysis on P&L and other areas to ensure accuracy and provide explanation on variances to plan and forecasts. The individual’s efforts will be concentrated on all aspects of the company with attention to product and project cost accounting while also being a leader within the finance team and provide guidance to the other team members. As well, the incumbent will be required to extract, design and create database reports using the firm’s reporting tools, including SAP.

Job Responsibilities

  • Financial Planning and Reporting – key player between global entities and the corporate groups with regard to budgets and long-term plan, forecasting, planning and reporting activities, working capital management, analysis, consolidation and related systems and organization development.
  • Driving analysis of product costing against Standard/Budget, research and explain variances and report this information monthly or as needed. Considered a key resource in product cost projections and internal revenue/cost planning groups
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to simplify and make improvements from a controls, process and/or systems perspective to drive positive change within and across the organization
  • Prepares reports, analyses and forecasts revenue/sales
  • Manages cost systems: extracts cost data from SAP so to continually review and assess to ensure production has been properly executed and recorded. Can often involve cross-functional interaction to review and improve on processes and troubleshoot issues.
  • Designs and creates database reports using firm’s reporting tools, including SAP.
  • Providing support in audits including tax audits
  • Working with F&A Controller to complete the quarterly financial review package
  • Supports month-end closing activities with the Accounting Supervisor
  • Preparing monthly intercompany reconciliations
  • Maintaining the Fixed Asset listing. Assist in forecast and capital expenditure planning function.
  • Working on ad hoc projects or special analysis as required
  • Prepare the annual SR&ED claim

Job Requirements

  • Education
    • Post-secondary degree in Finance or Accounting with courses in financial/cost accounting, reporting and analysis
    • Completed, or working towards, CPA designation
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Background in financial statement, product/cost analysis with preference in multi-entity, multi-currency, consolidations
    • Highly pro-active and innovative approach to problem solving and performance enhancement
    • Experience in implementation and operation of financial modules of major ERP system, particularly SAP FICO a significant advantage
    • Experience in formalized audit processes-both external and internal
    • Manages, develops and maintains aspects of accounting and new business data and from said data designs and creates database reports
    • Proactive individual who is motivated, highly energetic, driven by continuous improvement and meets objectives in a timely and planned manner
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a focus on detail
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years’ demonstrable and progressive experience in financial reporting and analysis with significant emphasis in multinational corporations.
    • Fine chemical and/or the pharmaceutical industry exposure is an asset
