Job Summary

 

The Industrial Electrician role is a key production function, specializing in electrical and controls troubleshooting, repairs, preventative maintenance, calibrations and GMP activities to ensure SISPQ and machine integrity.  As a leading member of a team, the Industrial Electrician is required to work with other members to reduce or eliminate non-value-added activities or costs, while maintaining or improving quality, productivity, and timeliness throughout the project(s) and task(s) being managed.  This role requires technical expertise in order to help train and teach proper operations procedures, to ensure the longevity of the equipment and improve reliability through production project and maintenance activities.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Develop, implement, maintain and execute predictive and preventative maintenance programs and/or calibration programs on material handling/production/process development equipment ensuring compliance with SISPQ.
  • Initiate and execute production maintenance and continuous improvement projects (execute OQ’s, electrical upgrades & improvements) to completion.
  • Install, repair and maintain electrical, electronic equipment, instrumentation as well as computerised/controls systems (HMI, PCs, VMs, PLCs, VFDs, vision systems & network) related to production/manufacturing machinery and systems.
  • Troubleshooting electrical, electronic equipment, instrumentation, and/or computer/ controls issues to identify root cause and implement a solution. Work with other personnel including Technician, Mechanical, Technician, Building Systems/Electrical Instrumentation, external vendors and contractors, and Project Leaders on corrective and preventative maintenance and projects.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in a full compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs), SOPs and in accordance with established Safety Standards including CSA and ESA standards.
  • Use electrical testing equipment to diagnose problems.
  • Understand and practice proactive maintenance and contribute in correcting problems before they become downtime issues.
  • Conduct and/or receive training and coaching on equipment when necessary. Able to travel for training if necessary.
  • Assist with mechanical repairs as needed
  • Take ownership and accountability for issues, working proactively to resolve. Work efficiently to maximize department goals of minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Ensure issues, follow-up actions and/or resolutions are clearly communicated to peers, vendors, customers, coordinators and supervisors. This information should be transferred at shift overlaps as well as during the shift.
  • Effectively use SAP Plant Maintenance module to search maintenance history, to create/complete/confirm work orders, and to find and reserve parts.
  • Create and modify drawings, P&ID’s and schematics when required.
  • Prepare and update standard operating procedures (SOP’s), standard documents (SD’s), and SAP PM Task Lists.
Job Requirements

 

  • Industrial Electrician Licence or Construction Maintenance Licence with suitable experience will be considered. Current Master’s Electrical License will be an asset.
  • Electrical/Electronics Technologist diploma.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with PLCs (Allen Bradley; Siemens) and PCs
  • Experience in food/pharmaceutical environment preferable but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of PC hardware and software. Able to use MS Outlook, Word and
  • Proactive and self motivated. Able to lead, collaborate with others.
  • Able to train and pass on knowledge to junior technicians.
  • Strong communication, organisational and planning skills, along with good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical and presentation skills.
  • Willing to participate in skill enhancement programs.
  • Ability to work any shift including evenings and weekends as required.
