Job Summary
As a member of the Building Systems team, responsibilities include the management and supervision of all building systems activities in a customer focused manner. This individual must demonstrate an ability to apply best practices in the operation and maintenance of all Apotex Etobicoke facilities in a safe, efficient, reliable, and fully compliant manner.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the management and supervision of activities and trades in the Building Systems Dept.
- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all facility mechanical & electrical systems.
- Responsible for managing an effective program for all bench and assigned field calibrations for assigned building / manufacturing systems and equipment to ensure full regulatory compliance.
- Shall conduct / arrange for necessary testing, document results, make recommendations to ensure that Apotex facilities are in compliance with regulations (HEPA filter testing, etc.), standards concerning ventilation requirements.
- Program, implement, and coordinate maintenance priorities for both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requirements. Assign work to staff / arrange for outside contractors as required to complete work in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Ensure that all information related to the maintenance, calibration, repair or alteration relevant to all building systems and equipment is properly approved and documented (service reports, CMMS WO, etc.).
- Ensure that all Building Systems staff/contractors perform work in a safe manner according to applicable codes, regulations, legislation, safety standards and policies.
- Co-ordinate and communicate the work of the Building Systems department with all other departments.
- Work with users, Building Services staff and vendors to provide building services & engineering expertise / evaluate effectiveness of systems in order to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of Apotex facilities and for continuous improvements.
- Source cost effective materials for building maintenance and repairs, create purchase requisitions and obtain purchase orders for all procurements. Provide contractors and suppliers with relevant data to ensure quotes are based on accurate and full information consistently for all third parties involved in the bid process.
- Assist in budget preparations and planning for both operating and capital budgets. Maintain budgetary control of departmental expenditures.
- Review and analyze all utility consumption trends and cost data.
- Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one on ones, to connect on performance; check in on employees’ progress toward achieving objectives, offer support and remove barriers and, communicate performance expectations to reinforce and encourage a high-performance culture and safe working environment for all.
- Utilize open, honest, two-way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.

Job Requirements
Education
-
Engineering Degree, Technologist Diploma (Mechanical or Electrical) or a combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of building mechanical & electrical systems as applied to large institutional buildings.

Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting and administrative skills.

Well versed with data analysis applications and ability to comprehend and apply environmental control principles to establish the overall efficient operation of building systems.

Good interpersonal skills, demonstrates initiative, self-motivation, planning and organizational skills, effective communicator with experience in employee supervision.

Demonstrated expertise in the field of energy management.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Experience
-
Minimum (3) years’ experience in the management of a large complex physical plant.
