Job Summary

Provide comprehensive legal support on a wide variety of legal matters, including contracts, regulatory, and other legal support to the business and as directed by in-house lawyers for the Apotex Group of companies globally more specifically Head of Legal, India and within the mandate of the Legal Affairs department.

Job Responsibilities

Provides legal support services within the mandate of the Legal Affairs department, for all business functions and activities of the Apotex Group, at the direction of in-house lawyers of Apotex Group of companies, including:

  • Commercial Contract Management: draft, review, negotiate contracts, like confidentiality, quality, pharmacovigilance, commercial contracts (procurement agreements, service agreements and sales agreements);
  • Operational Matters: providing legal services in relation to the Indian business operation including HR, finance, litigation, quality, sale & procurement and compliance;
  • Regulatory: legal services in relation to regulatory matters, R&D, clinical trials including reviewing and preparing responses to Access to Information Requests, Public Release of Clinical Information, and any other Canadian regulatory requests such as advertising and lobbying;
  • Risk Management: identify potential legal risks and propose practical solution to mitigate;
  • Dispute Resolution: assist in managing litigation, arbitration and pre-litigation matters with external counsels; and
  • Policy and Processes: support global corporate programs, policies, procedures and systems (including implementation), with guidance from the department head and in collaboration with other internal stakeholders, to enhance the effectiveness of legal support and legal risk mitigation for all business functions.

Job Requirements

  • Education
    • Mandatory LLB degree or equivalent.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • This role requires strong analytical skills and business acumen,
    • Understanding and legal training in corporate and commercial law, with experience in the area of having worked in regulated sector.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative business relationships and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication.
    • Ability to thoroughly evaluate alternatives, innovate problem resolution, employ a pro-active approach, and take initiative to resolve problems.
    • Ability to think and act independently.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage and adapt to changing priorities.
    • Ability to quickly grasp legal and business issues and provide tailored legal advice and counsel in plain language.
    • Ability to provide timely advice in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
    • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Experience
    • Around 5-6 years of experience, as in-house legal counsel in an international company environment and / or in private practice at a law firm.
