Job Summary

As a member of the Data Office, the role of the Metadata Lead is to facilitate discovery and understanding of relevant information such as Business,Technical and Operational metadata.The Metadata Management (MM) Lead is is reponsible for correctly defining and maintaining business, technical and operational metadata within an organization, ensuring that metadata is properly created, stored and maintained so that inconsistencies and redundancies are minimized. The key activities of the MM Lead include Managing & publishing data definitions in Apotex’s Business Glossary, Maintaining data classifications, Maintaining data archival/retention guidelines (i.e. lifecycle management), and Maintaining Apotex’s data inventory.

The Metadata Mangement Lead leads or participates as a senior representative on cross-functional business project teams, representing the Enterprise MM function.
In conjunction with business leaders, develops, makes authoritative recommendations around, and ensures the implementation of, consistent and harmonized policies, procedures and professional standards of performance for the Enterprise Metadata Mangment program.
 

Job Responsibilities

•Understand Apotex business practices and work closely with Domain Owners, Data Stewards and data related functions to implement all Metadata Mangment related processes and changes.
•Works closely with business leads, SME’s, Executives , Data Office working group and Data Governance (DG) Steering Committee to align with Data Strategy and implement strategic decisions and Operation plans.
•Responsible for all aspects of Metadata Management competency.; definition of competencies  and training of Data stewards
•Establishes metadata artifact templates and standards.
•Prepares metadata management policy.
•Defines metadata management processes.
•Ensures compliance to metadata management policy and processes.
•Primary point of coordination for metadata integration with business systems analysts and application development teams. 
•Responsible for providing technical oversight for metadata management efforts, including standards management process. 
•Primary focal point for all metadata entry and downloads.
•Primary Focal point for Metadata Repository design.
•Primary business user focal point for Metadata Repository issues.
•Coordinates all Metadata Repository development efforts.
•Responsible for Metadata Repository technical support problem resolution.
•Works in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.

Job Requirements

•Education
oBachelor’s degree or higher in Business or Technology
•Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
oStrong business understanding of  data & metadata
oFamiliar with Metadata Management methodologies and practices
oIndirectly managing or mentoring small to large teams
oWorking with business resources to develop business processes
oWorking knowledge in practices and technology in areas such as Business Intelligence, data models, business glossary, and master data domain management
oStrong analytical skills
oExcellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
oAbility to present in front of senior management, and both small and large audiences
oAbility to resolve conflicts and build consensus
•Experience
o10+ years of experience in Data Management and/or Metadata Management
oBackground & experience working with data taxonomies & ontologies
oExperience with Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions
