Job Summary

 

The Capital Projects – Manufacturing Team Leader is responsible for managing Manufacturing capital project teams globally across Apotex and affiliates, ensuring that all company regulations and procedures are followed and that all work is done in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.

This role is responsible for providing project delivery and management oversight specifically focussed on Capital Projects Key Performance Measures (KPMs), resource coordination and technical input for Manufacturing related projects.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Manages a team of Capital Project Leaders/Project Coordinators.
  • Provide project planning, including proof of concept, scope definition, estimating, design, construction/equipment execution and resourcing for Apotex in the area of production equipment and related technologies.
  • Liaises at a senior level across the organization with diverse customer groups (Production, Formulations, Packaging, Logistics, and other relevant business areas) to determine immediate and longer-term Global Manufacturing Capital Project needs. Is able to communicate planning risk to the leadership level and effectively provide mitigation efforts for same.
  • Acts as a technical resource to the team providing troubleshooting and problem resolution for existing systems.
  • Leads in the development/implementation of Apotex project management principles and good engineering practices by utilizing analytical techniques to proactively manage resource/project constraints. Works with Engineering Services Department leadership, suppliers and contractors to recommend solutions and determine best action.
  • Oversees the compliance of all team members, consultants and contractors to corporate policies, regulatory guidelines and statutory standards.
  • Recommends the selection of suppliers and contractors on smaller contracts to the next level management, and manages the contract with them for the full project life cycle.
  • Manages large, complex projects with multiple diverse stakeholders.
  • Ensures adherence to KPMs by team members.
  • Responsible for all deliverables required of a project manager as defined by the Capital Projects Plan.
  • Oversees development of detailed project schedules in collaboration with team members. Self-sufficient in creating and maintaining project schedules which reflect the realistic and unique project attributes and forward-looking evolution of the overall project approach.
  • Monitors and controls manufacturing team deliverables, ensuring quality as per the Apotex quality standards.
  • Leads cross-functional project teams involving internal peers in other functional areas on initiatives relating to their own functional area.
  • Performs project closing activities, including post review sessions.
  • Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one on ones, to connect on performance; check in on employee’s progress toward achieving Objectives, offer support and remove barriers; and, communicate and revisit performance expectations to reinforce and encourage high performance culture and a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Utilize open, honest, two way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.

Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree; Professional Engineering/ Project Management Professional designation would be an asset
  • Minimum 6 years experience in a progressive manufacturing organization with proven capital or technical leadership capability
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated Project and Construction Management knowledge
  • Strong working knowledge of project controls systems
  • Experience in commissioning and validation of facility systems and high-speed production and packaging systems
  • Experience in leading and influencing the activities and interaction of project team members and stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to internal and external customers
