Job Summary

The Manager, Packaging is responsible for all aspects of a specific operating unit within the Solid Dose Packaging group ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with Safe Work Practices, cGMP, current Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions and Company policies.

As part of the Packaging Leadership Team, the Manager is responsible for providing leadership in the development and execution of departmental action plans in support of the Apotex strategic initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide visible results-based leadership that drives improvement consistent with the Operations strategic plan and the Packaging Tactical plan
  • As a key member of the Packaging leadership group, actively participate in the development of the Packaging tactical plan and ensure that Operating unit activities are in place to deliver results consistent with the plan
  • Working with other team members and internal customers, coordinate the strategic activities to ensure alignment of resources, approach and execution
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key business partners outside packaging, including but not limited to, QA, Supply Chain, Formulations Development and HR
  • In conjunction with Packaging Technical and Corporate Engineering and in support of the tactical plan, develop recommendations and implement solutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department
  • Manage the daily operations of the business units, providing guidance to direct reports to maximize the effectiveness of their areas of responsibility whilst maintaining a collaborative team-based environment
  • In collaboration with the Director, Operations, develops the annual operating budget and tactical staffing plan
  • Represents the interests of Packaging Operations in the absence of the director
  • Organize and monitor workflow and balance resources to meet packaging targets and schedules
  • Produce accurate report on packaging activities
  • Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one on ones, to connect on performance; check in on employee’s progress toward achieving Objectives, offer support and remove barriers; and, communicate and revisit performance expectations to reinforce and encourage high performance culture and a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Utilize open, honest, two-way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.

Job Requirements

  • Education
    • Post-Secondary Degree
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated leadership experience particularly in the areas of approachability, dealing with direct reports, managing diversity, setting goals and objectives and measuring performance
    • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office programs and exposure to SAP or other ERPs
    • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to work within a team environment (as part of a team) as demonstrated through previous work experience.
    • Ability to motivate self and others
    • Proven experience in systematic problem solving
    • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
  • Experience
    • Eight to ten years’ experience in a progressive manufacturing organization with proven capital/technical leadership capability 
    • Previous experience in the Food, Consumer Packaged Goods or Pharmaceutical industry an asset
