Job Summary

In addition to the daily shop floor transactions, the Packaging Supervisor is accountable for the tactical plans to support the implementation of packaging strategies.   Key areas include setting attainable objectives, achieving resource efficiency, optimizing packaging processes, and managing costs diligently.  The expected business impacts include, although are not limited to:

 

  • Departmental performance in the areas of quality, productivity, safety, and cost.
  • Utilization of existing resources and capacity to meet increasing business demands. 
  • Adherence to the compliance of process, people, equipment, and materials.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Is accountable for meeting the targets of safety, quality (RFT and Deviations), output (dosages per line per shift) and productivity (dosages per FTE per shift)
  • Provide results-oriented leadership that drives continuous improvement consistent with the Operations Strategic Plan and the Production Game Plan.
  • Leads the implementation of departmental initiatives, such as set-up reduction, visual workplace, target resetting and team restructuring.
  • Partners with QA management to resolve customer complaints.
  • Communicates corporate messages in Packaging operations.
  • Represents packaging on cross-functional project teams and supports action planning and execution with committed resources.
  • Exercises managerial approvals in manager’s absence.
  • Participates in developing responses to the regulatory audits as needed.
  • Recruit, train, develop and manage effectively the ongoing performance of their direct reports.
  • Ensure all Job Descriptions for direct reports are periodically reviewed, signed and stored according to our global job description processes.
  • Review and update development plans for all direct reports, ensuring that all direct reports are properly trained and qualified according to our Global Training and Employee Qualification Enterprise Policy.
  • Effectively manage performance for direct reports according to the Global Performance Management Program.
  • Attract and retain talent based on our talent management framework.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback and recognition based on the expected behaviors, job description and performance on objectives.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance of team members (direct reports) with the Global Business Ethics and Compliance Program, Global Quality procedures, Safety and Environment policies, and HR policies.
  • Works as a member of a team to achieve all outcomes.
  • Leads with a global mindset that respects all cultural dimensions.
  • Performs all work in accordance with our Code of Conduct and Business Ethics, and all established regulatory, compliance and safety requirements.
  • Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one on ones, to connect on performance; check in on employee’s progress toward achieving Objectives, offer support and remove barriers; and, communicate and revisit performance expectations to reinforce and encourage high performance culture and a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Utilize open, honest, two way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.

Job Requirements

  • Education
    • A degree in chemistry, engineering or a closely related discipline required, or related packaging or production experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Proven in-depth knowledge and application of GMP’s, safety, and operation management.
    • Demonstrated ability to understand departmental goals and translate them into team performance measurement and management.
    • Successes in motivating, coaching, decision-making, and prioritizing.
    • Displayed critical thinking and analytical skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
    • Flexibility and willingness to rotate shifts and / or sites.
  • Experience
    • Minimum seven years of industrial production experience, ideally in a pharmaceutical packaging environment; minimum two years supervisory experience.
    • Hands-on experience with internet, email, MS office tools, and SAP (or an equivalent).
    • Experienced in project management and process optimization.
