Job Summary
The Business Data Steward’s role is to take responsibility for the definition, quality, and adherence to data governance standards and specifications of the data in their stewardship.
Coming from business units, Business Data Stewards represent the interests of users of the data. The Business Data Steward Community serves, enterprise wide, as the central point of contact, knowledge and help for the data under their stewardship and ensures strong integration between diverse stakeholders, including functional stakeholders of specific data elements.
Most importantly, the Business Data Steward is responsible for implementing Data Governance (DG) practices and solutions – including participating in the change of business unit business processes – as mandated by the Data and Digital Steering Committee, Enterprise Data Office (EDO) Working Group and Data Domain Owner.
Job Responsibilities
- Is responsible for attainment of metrics set for data by the Digital and Data Steering Committee
- Prioritizes issues related to the data in their stewardship
- Identifies root causes of DQ and definition issues
- Identifies, manages, and escalates as needed critical data management issues and risks
- Helps formulate strategy and initiate/manage efforts to mitigate such issues
- Together with Data Domain Owners, identifies resources to participate in data-related issue resolution
- Is responsible for providing and maintaining data definitions
- Is accountable for the content of data definitions (i.e., owns them, signs off on changes, etc.)
- Where conflicting definitions exist, identifies stakeholders who must be consulted and conducts level-setting exercises
- Leading and directly participating in data remediation activities that close gaps between defined data definitions and existing data, resolving identified inconsistencies.
- Identifies/defines mandatory/critical data elements that need to be measured or treated separately
- Maintains and updates Data Quality & Master Data Management business rules
- Together with Data Domain Owners, reviews and provides input to data model for their data domain
- Works in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.

Job Requirements
- Education
- BS/BA Degree in Information Systems, Business, or Engineering or equivalent business experience.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Deep subject matter expertise on the data under their stewardship, including its meaning, content, location, constraints usage patterns across the organization, and related issues/problems.
- Ability to act as project manager for projects/efforts aimed at deploying DG within Apotex business processes.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to build relationships with different roles within and across functions, including conflict resolution and reconciling competing stakeholder & process needs.
- Familiar with Data Management and Governance roles, principles, and processes.
- Strong knowledge of data management principles, with experience in data analysis processes & tools (i.e., Informatica).
- Self-starter, with demonstrated ability to plan, lead and drive data cleansing efforts and lead remediation processes for defined master data elements.
- Proficient in SQL/Python to be used for data profiling.
- Experience with tools such as Power BI, Tableau and QlikSense for creating data visualizations.
- Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience within an Information Systems, Project Management or Management Consulting Environment. Experience in a Pharmaceutical/Process/Consumer Packaged Goods industry preferred.
- Good understanding of functional business processes and regulations/standards
- 5 years of experience in Data Quality Analysis, Data Governance and MDM.
- Minimum of 2 years working with data scripting such as SQL, R, Python, SAS, etc.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
