Job Summary

The Analyst, Global Portfolio and Business Insights’ will provide critical, cross-functional support and play a pivotal role in shaping cross-functional decisions for Apotex’s global pharmaceutical portfolio. This position will assist in managing processes that enable the portfolio team to review, prioritize, and execute global generic and innovative strategy which in turn will drive revenue and profit growth. Time will be allocated between assessing third party deals (licensing, co-development, acquisition, extended-bench top) as well as organic (in-house) opportunities to stimulate continued financial growth. 

 

The Analyst will help the Director apply strategic frameworks and pipeline metrics across multiple dimensions:

  • Financial: IRR, NPV, hurdle rates, and other valuation metrics; also inclusive of maintaining value in the 5-Year Plan
  • Legal: Intellectual property considerations, Hatch-Waxman provisions (FTF, Day 181, forfeiture rules, etc.)
  • Operational: Plant capacity optimization, CMO engagement, cost of goods analysis across dosage forms
  • R&D: Spend rationalization, prioritization, risk assessment, and timeline oversight

This role requires strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize complex data to support decisions that align with IP, regulatory, marketing, finance, and R&D functions. The Analyst will contribute to ensuring portfolio strategies are grounded in scientific knowledge and market dynamics.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting cross-team collaboration between various teams including: GR&D/Launch, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Finance, Commmercial, Corporate Development, and GIP in order to preserve the health and value of the current pipeline, as well as to drive new growth (product additions and innovation).
  • Working closely with PMO to execute quarterly and bi-annual reviews of the 5-year financial plan – maintaining financial dates and risks.
  • Maintaining a centralized database with aforementioned internal information as well as tracking of opportunities not yet in pipeline – updating key fields extracted from external sources.
  • Working closely with Corporate Finance to conduct an annual NPV refresh to validate the GR&D / Corporate Development budgets.
  • Working closely with Corporate Development to assess third-party opportunities – indicating preliminary interest and helping to guide Commercial teams with forecast generation.
  • Supporting Product Selection process – addition of new generic products to the pipeline.
  • Supporting Bull Pen process – driving proof of concept and addition of innovative products to the pipeline.
    • Developing compelling narratives around pharmaceutical products, articulating their value and positioning in the market, especially when looking at alternate drug options for molecules outside of standard ANDA routes.
    • Working closely with consultants and external parties to gather primary research and market intel – leverage to generate strategic presentations which will drive alignment at the executive level.
  • Acting as a supporting function to Commercial teams to help validate market / therapeutic area potential as well as other forecast assumptions.
  • Maintaining an in-depth understanding key GR&D activities – formulation/drug development, key differentiators and impact to overall product strategy.
  • Use appropriate interpersonal skills to influence the decision-making process of cross-functional teams across the business.
  • Recognize and identify issues; subsequently take appropriate corrective and preventative action; consulting with appropriate organizational members as required.

Job Requirements

Education:

    • University degree; (Business or Science); at least a Bachelor’s and preferably a Master’s.

 

Experience:

    • 3-5 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry;
    • 3-5 years of experience with reporting solutions and data management.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Proficient understanding and use of the MS-Office suite of products; with particular emphasis on MS-Word, MS-PPT, MS-Excel, and MS-Project (or other PM software);
    • Intermediate understanding and use of data of reporting tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, etc.
    • Excellent understanding of business and supporting technology related to the pharmaceutical industry;
    • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a variety of settings and styles and all levels of leadership;
    • Excellent collaborative style and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a matrix, client focused environment;
    • Proven ability to manage challenging relationships and deal with interpersonal conflict at all levels in an organization;
    • Proven effectiveness in accomplishing objectives and goals while anticipating and adjusting to problems, interruptions or roadblocks;
    • Demonstrated experience “to win” in a strong matrix, fast paced environment;
    • Independent thinker and developer of tracking and reporting tools that fit the business needs and requirements

The hiring range for this position is $72, 284.85 to $101,198.79 CAD per year. The final agreed-upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
